The Parsons Memorial Library is more than just a building full of books—it's a vibrant heart of the Alfred community, and that is thanks entirely to our phenomenal volunteers! As we approach the end of 2025, we want to express our deepest gratitude to every person who has dedicated their time and energy to making our library a better place.

A Year of Generosity

We are thrilled to announce that the Parsons Memorial Library has 52 active volunteers this year! This dedicated group is truly the lifeblood of our operation.

In 2025, you have collectively contributed over 800 hours of volunteer service! Think about that: 800 hours of time given freely to support literacy, education, and community connection. This tremendous gift of time allows us to offer services and programs far beyond what our small staff could manage alone.

Volunteer Highlights

Your hard work spans every corner of the library. Here are just a few areas where your hours have made a massive impact:

• Program Support: A huge 275 hours were dedicated to helping with our programs, from setting up children's story times to running workshops. You make learning and fun possible for all ages!

• Circulation: With 170 hours supporting our circulation desk, you've helped shelve books, and keep our collection organized so patrons can always find what they need.

• Community Outreach: Over 125 hours were given to bringing the library out into the community! This essential work helped make the following events a success:

  • The Annual Community Picnic

  • Alfred Festival Days

  • The Alfred One-Room Schoolhouse Story Walk Project

  • The Annual Spooky Walk
