Art Show Opening

Each Wednesday at Parsons Memorial Library, our Community Room is transformed from a humble gathering space to an art studio where incredible works are created. Now, those works are on display at PML, enlivening our Community Room with vibrant colors, handsome woodwork, stunning photography, and gorgeous fiber art.

The idea for the show came from artist Lee Macos, who works in pastels, creating ethereal still lifes and collages. Macos collaborated with fellow artists to put the show together, including Sheila O’Neil Clough, Jean Caddell, Laura Power, Priscilla Mike, Lawrence Brody, and Carol Santora.

Staff members Roycean Weyand, Dominique Zulueta, and kat szmit each have pieces in the show as well.

This is your opportunity to experience an art show by people in your community. By your friends, family, and neighbors. Stop by during open hours and take a look, or join us on Dec. 22 for our Winter Solstice Open House when we’ll have sweet treats, seasonal delights, and haiku on display in our Reading Room.

Then, venture downstairs to the “Art Gallery” where you can enjoy each piece. Take in Jean Caddell’s celebration of summer with a riot of colorful flowers in “Where I Bloom.” Appreciate Sheila O’Neil Clough’s “The Music Lesson” featuring a young musician learning a song at the piano. There’s also “Shrimp Boats” and “Reflection” from Lee Macos, capturing light and stillness, and “Port Richey at Night” from Laura Power, which feels like a soothing evening stroll. Lawrence Brody offers whimsy with his “Still Life With Critter,” and if you love animals, be sure to look for “Gossips,” featuring a trio of charming horses by Carol Santora.

Marcela Lamontagne’s crocheted bag, “Nature Joyful Colors” will catch your eye, as will Priscilla Mike’s crocheted caps, scarves, bracelets, and bags, and you can continue the fiber arts theme with Roycean’s “Winter in Maine” snowflakes and a pair of adorable owls. Photographs by kat include one from Muir Woods in California, and another called “Cuban” of a man kat photographed in Cuba in 2014, and be sure to see Dominique’s spectacular cutting board, “The Big Block,” her trivet “Dogwoods,” and another trivet called “Warm Heart.”

Celebrate the season and see truly lovely art on Dec. 22 from 5-7 p.m., 27 Saco Road, Alfred. We’ll save you a cookie!
