Benjamin C. Jordan

Benjamin C. Jordan was a very successful lumberman in York County. He owned thousands of acres of woodland in southern Maine. He operated sawmills in Sanford, Springvale, Emery Mills, E. Waterboro and the Shaker mill in Alfred. Jordan was very active in local affairs and a member of Alfred Parish Church. He also helped found the summer Baptist colony- Ocean Park- in Old Orchard Beach. He lived in a mansion on Waterboro Road that became the Blue Door Inn which burned in the 1980’s. BC Jordan died in 1912 and left thousands of acres to Bates College, much of which became Massabesic Experimental Forest. He is buried in Alfred’s Evergreen Cemetery.
