PML Announces Home Delivery Service

At Parsons Memorial Library, we love reading and so do our patrons. But not all of our patrons are able to get to the library. That’s why we’re starting a new Home Delivery Service.

“In the last few years, Parsons Memorial Library has been committed to providing our local community with more than just a place to check out books,” said Library Director Roycean Weyand. “We see the value and importance in connecting people, opportunities, and enriching information to build a healthy society.”

According to Weyand, the new Home Delivery Service was made possible by The Remote Work Through Libraries grant project, which inspired the library to think differently about what a library can offer. Some changes were made inside the library building, including necessary digital resources through workspaces, internet access, and equipment to encourage remote work employment.

But we wanted to be sure that people who aren’t able to venture out to the library have access to our materials. We are pleased to offer our new Home Delivery Service for residents of the Town of Alfred who are unable to visit the physical library because of temporary or long-term illness, disability, or other health-related conditions.

“This service ensures equitable and consistent access to library materials in alignment with the overall mission of the library as well as the library’s 2024-2027 Strategic Plan,” Weyand said.

Here’s what to know about the Home Delivery Service:

  • This service is offered to all residents of the Town of Alfred who are unable to leave their home environment due to illness, disability, or other health-related condition for 30 days or more.

  • Homebound patrons must have an active library card in good standing. If you need a library card, contact the library and we’ll get you set up.

  • All patrons interested in the Home Delivery Service must apply for this service by contacting the library or using the form on our website.

  • Library staff will work with patrons to coordinate twice-a-month deliveries of library materials, including books, magazines, DVDs, audiobooks, puzzles, and inter-library loans.

For more information about this new program or any of our library programs, give us a call at 207-324-2001, email us at pml@alfredme.gov, or visit the library’s webpage Home Delivery Service
